Building the Vision: Tim Bernard on MDCC’s Milestones and Future

Recently, CBC Mainstreet‘s Lauren Ella Burke spoke with MDCC Executive Director, Tim Bernard, about key milestones in the project’s journey. They discussed breaking ground on the driveway and utility corridor, the Home to Mi’kma’kik project, and MDCC’s shared stewardship with organizations like the National Museum of the American Indian.

Tim reflected on the history of the project and MDCC’s approach to building the centre from the inside out—rooted in Mi’kmaw stories, protecting Mi’kmaw pasts, and exploring Mi’kmaw histories. He also spoke about closing the funding gap to make the centre a reality, creating a gathering space for the 13 chiefs and councils, and housing a world-class collection in a world-class centre.

The conversation ended with a discussion on the incredible generosity behind the Mi’kmaw basket auction—both from the organizers and the bidders who helped make it a success.
